A New Type of Stamp Collecting
When Steve and Carol Girard first saw what is now Benton-Lane
vineyard, they thought they had won the lotto. Having sold their Girard Ranch in Napa, Oakville, Steve and Carol went on a quest to produce great Pinot Noir. This led them to Willamette Valley, Oregon and what was once
an old sheep ranch called Sunnymount. The aptly named mountainside plot of land sees more sunlight on average than most of the surrounding growing areas and is thus ideal for grape growing.
Benton-Lane Winey gets its name from their vineyard sitting in both Benton and Lane counties. The postage stamp labels are a play on this unique location. The 138-acre property was purchased in 1988 and the winery with the first vintage in 1992 and the winery constructed in 1998.
Benton-Lane produces Pinot Noir from their estate vineyards throughout Willamette Valley. Their Reserve Pinot Noir “First Class”
is sourced from their home, Benton-Lane vineyard. Pinot Gris grapes are sourced from carefully selected growers from throughout the Willamette Valley.
Benton-Lane incorporates their unique program that utilizes sustainable, organic and biodynamic farming practices. They took the best part of these while using some of their own techniques to provide stewardship and health of the vineyards. All this leads to L.I.V.E. certification
a preservation program designed for vineyard management in the Pacific Northwest.
