Great Champagne at a Great Price

When walking down the champagne aisle the first thing shoppers typically note is prices approaching triple digits. While many of these exquisite wines have earned their price points, it has given many the false impression that you need to take out a loan just to afford the elite champagnes of the world. Well, we’re here to tell you that that is simply not the case.

Laurent-Perrier has been making Champagne for over 200 years and is one of the Top 10 Champagne producers in the world by volume. A Grandes Marques house, its peers’ wines can cost you around and above the dreaded $100 mark, but this holiday season you can find Laurent-Perrier’s world-class wines in Ohio starting at $39.99. Trust us, there’s really no champagne out there of this quality at this price.

But don’t just take our word for it. Wine Spectator scored Laurent-Perrier’s Brut Non Vintage (Brut NV) 90 points calling it “lovely,” and praising the “candied citrus, ginger, and mineral aromas and flavors [that] integrate well with the lightweight, elegant frame.”  Crisp, fresh, and elegant, this champagne benefits from ideal ageing in the cellars (three years for a bottle; four to five years for a magnum) and its balance and natural freshness are enhanced by a light dosage. The blend of Chardonnay (50%), Pinot Noir (35%), and Pinot Meunier (15%) grapes are from more than 55 individual crus (the villages in which the grapes are grown) with an average cru rating of 94% (90% and above is considered premier).

Laurent-Perrier also makes a Demi-Sec for wine drinkers who prefer their champagne on the sweeter side. Full-bodied and lightly sweet, it’s a rich wine with a rounded feel and perfect for any celebration. Like the Brut NV, its blend of Chardonnay (45%), Pinot Noir (40%), and Pinot Meunier (15%) comes from 55 crus averaging over 94%.

Laurent-Perrier has been creating unique and elegant champagnes since its founding in 1812. The world’s largest family-owned champagne brand, it was the first house to introduce a multi-vintage prestige cuvée and in 1980 reintroduced the world to the concept of brut nature (no added dosage) champagne. Originally founded by André Michel Pierlot and run by his family for several generations, Laurent-Perrier was purchased by Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt in 1939. During World War II, she ran the company while her sons, Maurice and Bernard, fought in the French Resistance. After the war, Bernard took over as Chairman and CEO and crafted the style that has made Laurent-Perrier one of the world’s premier champagne houses.
